After a colon cancer diagnosis in February, successful surgery in March, I am now on my first round of chemo to reduce the chance of recurrence. It’s a pill form (Capecitabine) that I’ll be on until mid-October. So far I’ve had some nausea - yuck - but the anti-nausea drugs seem to do the trick.
I’m living in Enderby where I grew up, and besides focusing on healthy living, the main priority right now is quality time with Mom in her last months of life. She was diagnosed with ALS in January, and while her respiratory system is slowly deteriorating, she’s still enjoying a lot of good quality moments every day. It full-on life these days - all the suffering and the beauty. Lots of visitors, laughter, and some tears.
The backyard is the happy place. We’ve got a big old recliner on the porch where I’m sitting at the moment. There is sunshine most days, plenty of birds, and three different colours of lilacs. The lawn needs mowing, but that can wait. I’ve got more important things to do right now, like drinking green tea and eating mint dark chocolate.
